The Wheel of Time turns...
I've often made the probably rather crass joke that I won't start a multi-book series of novels until they are all published, for fear that the writer will die before completing the epic and leave it unfinished.
Today, Robert Jordan, author of the brilliant though incredibly epic Wheel of Time series, passed away, leaving the last book in the twelve (or thirteen) book series unfinished.
Robert Jordan has many fans, and I am one of them. I promise I will finish reading his opus series (I'm only up to book six or so...), one day, even if it remains tragically unfinished. Though I doubt that will be allowed to happen.
The Wheel of Time was an inspiration for several aspects of our equally long-winded and oft-times rambling D&D campaign, the Wyrmfang Chronicles, including the central McGuffin that drives the loosely connected plots. I have borrowed many names and character concepts to populate our Tuesday-only world, especially back when it started, so I owe a debt of thanks.
Thanks, Robert. You'll be missed, but never forgotten.
