Chapter Three:

Endurance...

With the party onboard the Endurance, the ship headed out to sea. Captain Garvyn didn't offer much by way of greeting or hospitality, but he did offer the group passage in exchange for their help as crew. He revealed that the ship's destination was Graben Island, off to the north; Ghrym confirmed that the pull of the Ba'alstones was stronger, and pointed them to the North as well. Agreeing to let themselves be guided by fate, the party offered their help as crew, and the Endurance sailed off.

It soon became apparent that all was not right... The crew was very secretive, and a pall seemed to hang over the ship. The party kept to themselves as well, and spent their time either working or preparing for the quest ahead of them. Then, something strange happened... Thomasin was visited by a member of the crew named Jacob, whom he did not recogize. Soon, though, it became apparent that no one on the crew knew of Jacob, and the man was not part of the crew. Soon after, Leif was visited by a young girl named Charlotte, who wanted help finding her doll, Clara. The ranger obliged, and the girl led him to a small cabin below decks, where the missing doll was found and where Charlotte climbed into bed and fell asleep. Later, when Leif went looking for the girl, neither she nor the cabin could be found. As always, Garvyn offered no explanations.

The Endurance sailed on for the next few days, eventually coming into a fog-shrouded part of the sea. It's progress slowed, the whole crew was alert on the deck, watching and waiting. Suddenly, out of the mists, another ship appeared -- a ragged, derelict, manned by a ghastly crew of undead, named the Eternal Torment. As the crew of the Endurance rushed to turn, the party of heroes gathered on deck to defend the ship. As the undead pirates bagan to storm the decks, the battle was joined. The party fought bravely, with Leif and Ghrym's black metal weapons seeming to have a great power over the unholy apparitions. The battle was fiercely fought, with many of the Endurance's crew killed or wounded, but eventually the attack was fought off. During the battle, Brandon was swept overboard. As the last of the ghasts were fought off, and the Eternal Torture began to slide away. The party and crew helped pull Brandon aboard, but then they made a shocking discovery. During the battle, a change had come over the ship. Now, it, too, looked like a floating derelict, like a curse upon the black seas. The name Endurance had change to. The ship was now named the Hellbound.
